What we did.
We recently designed and implemented a small-business infrastructure for a software company. When we arrived there was limited antivirus protection, no centralised data storage, no remote data-access provision for travelling staff and email was hosted externally by a third party.
We worked in conjunction with the managing director to establish a set of key business requirements, from which we set about designing their new technology infrastructure. Once this was agreed it took us two days to roll out Active Directory onto two servers and 25 PCs, create a centralised file-data server and secure user access to the file data using security groups as defined by the business requirements. In addition we brought the company's mail service in house, onto Microsoft Exchange 2003, and provided remote web-mail access for all users. We also implemented a backup regime for company data and put in place basic systems monitoring and capacity reporting.
